Softball league software — the season runs itself

Registration, schedules, scores, standings, rain-outs, playoffs — the parts of a softball season that eat a commissioner's weekends, handled by the system. Captains run their teams; the league runs itself.

What it is

An adult softball season is a hundred small jobs: signing up teams, building a fair schedule, chasing scores, ruling on the scores people argue about, re-slotting rained-out games, and seeding a playoff bracket at the end. Contender OS does the bookkeeping end of all of it. Captains register their teams and manage their rosters, the system generates the round-robin schedule, and a game score is final only when the opposing captain confirms it — disputes are never auto-resolved; they wait for league staff with the reported scores intact. Standings sort on real tiebreaks, and when the regular season ends, the playoff bracket seeds itself and plays down to a champion.

How the season runs

STEPCaptains register their teamsA captain signs the team up and builds the roster; registration closes on its own when the schedule is generated.
STEPThe schedule builds itselfRound-robin fixtures across your fields — a double round robin at most, home and away swapped on the second pass, byes handled for odd team counts.
STEPCaptains report, opponents confirmEither captain reports the score; only the opposing captain can confirm it. A dispute freezes the game for league staff, never an auto-ruling.
STEPPlayoffs seed themselvesOnce every regular game is final, the bracket generates from the standings in standard seed order and plays down to the champion.

What's built in

  • Captain-run teams and rosters — one team per captain, rosters up to 20 by default, players added by email identity.
  • Automatic round-robin schedules — weeks and games per week are settings; fields cycle, and odd team counts get byes.
  • Two-captain score confirmation — the reporter can never confirm their own report; disputes hold for staff with the reported scores, corrected scores, or a void.
  • Rain-outs and reschedules — either captain or staff can rain a game out; it reschedules into a new week and field with its scores cleared.
  • Standings with real tiebreaks — win percentage, then head-to-head inside the tie, then run differential, then runs scored.
  • Seeded playoffs — 2/4/8/16-team brackets in standard seed order; rounds advance automatically and the final freezes the season with its champion.

Who it's for

Built for adult softball leagues — independent commissioners, parks leagues, and bar-sponsored leagues — anywhere the season currently runs on a spreadsheet, a group text, and one person's Sundays. Adult leagues only: there are no youth features and no minor accounts.

Questions

Who does the day-to-day work?

Captains do: they register teams, manage rosters, report scores, and confirm opponents' scores. League staff handle the season-level steps — creating the season, generating the schedule and the playoffs, and settling disputes.

What does it cost?

Contender OS is $99/mo per venue for the full system, or $59/mo locked for 12 months on the Founding Operator rate with your first season free. Season passes run $149 for 6 weeks or $249 for 12 weeks, and the brackets-only Bracket Box tier is $39/mo. One flat price per venue — no per-player fees on the monthly plans.

What do teams need?

A captain with a phone. Rosters are built by email, scores are reported and confirmed on phones, and the schedule and standings are public pages anyone can check.

How are scores and arguments handled?

A captain reports the final score and the opposing captain confirms it — a reporter can never confirm their own report. If the opposing captain disputes it, the game freezes exactly as reported until league staff settle it with the reported scores, corrected scores, or a void. Disputes are never auto-resolved.
